Das EFX, an American hip-hop duo formed in 1991, brought a distinctive and innovative style to the genre that left an indelible mark on the early '90s rap scene. Comprising Dray (formerly Krazy Drayz) and Skoob (formerly Books), Das EFX quickly gained attention for their unique approach to rhyming and wordplay.
Their debut album, "Dead Serious" (1992), catapulted them to mainstream success with the hit single "They Want EFX." What set Das EFX apart was their animated and rapid-fire delivery, characterized by the use of "iggity" and "iggity-biggity" infixes within words. This linguistic creativity added a playful and distinctive element to their rhymes.
Subsequent albums, including "Straight Up Sewaside" (1993) and "Hold It Down" (1995), showcased their evolution while maintaining the animated style that became their signature. Despite facing challenges in replicating the commercial success of their debut, Das EFX continued to be revered for their contributions to hip-hop.
The duo's collaborations with fellow hip-hop artists, notably EPMD and Redman, further solidified their place in the rap landscape. Das EFX's willingness to experiment with their style and incorporate diverse influences demonstrated their versatility and commitment to evolving within the dynamic world of hip-hop.
After a brief hiatus, Das EFX reunited and remained active, releasing "How We Do" in 2003. Their impact on hip-hop extends beyond sales and charts; their linguistic innovations and animated delivery contributed to the rich tapestry of the genre's history. Das EFX's legacy lives on, celebrated for their groundbreaking style that continues to influence and inspire within the realm of hip-hop.
